Christmas in a Castle – Book Review

Christmas in a Castle by Samantha Hastings

Historical Romance, Historical Fiction, Regency Romance, Christmas Novella

Rating: Five stars

This was just the read I needed to get out of my book slump! Samantha has written another adorably sweet read, and I absolutely recommend you add this novella to your to-be-read shelf!

Mary and Trevor have been engaged for nearly four years now, and are just waiting for Trevor to receive a position over a church. However, conflicts arise and attempt to keep them both apart. Cue the three young ladies Mary is a governess to: Lady Frederica, Lady Helen, and Lady Becca.

Determined to help their governess find joy in the holidays, they scheme to bring the two lovers together and provide Trevor with a living with a church of his own. Often to nearly disastrous results, yet also with humourous moments in between!

I loved how Mary was such a confident, comfortable woman in her role, and I certainly enjoyed seeing the special relationship she had with her three charges. When Trevor entered the scene, his bashful shyness was so sweet and adorable, that I smiled and giggled many times during his interactions with Mary. (And when he finally kissed her? *swoon* I may have scared the people in the dentist’s waiting room with my big, goofy smile!)

Perfect for those looking for a quick, holiday read full of sweetly clean romance, mischievous young matchmakers, and a gentle reminder that love is never earned.

*I received a complimentary copy from the author. All opinions expressed are my own.*

Miss Mary Perkins is governess to the strong-willed Stringham sisters while waiting for her beloved Mr. Trevor Wallace, a curate, to receive a living so that they can afford to marry. When he loses the promised position, her young charges decide to give their governess a husband for Christmas. The Stringham sisters write a fake letter from the duke inviting Trevor to stay at the castle, lock the pair in the dungeon, accidentally poison a chaplain, and cause a great deal of mayhem with mistletoe. Despite the girls’ well-meaning mistakes, will Mary and Trevor finally have the wedding of their dreams?
